| Tips!
It is easy to mix up 'be' and 'do' in questions. Here are two simple rules for you to follow:
1. Be
Remember to use 'be', NOT 'do' in questions with adjectives (形容詞).
|
Wrong questions |
|
|
You afraid? / Do you afraid? |
|
 |
Why you so happy? / Why do you so happy? |
Why are you so happy? |
2. Do
When the main verb (動詞) in the question is not 'be', we use 'do/does' in the present tense and 'did' in the past tense.
Examples: |
Are you hungry? |
main verb = are (be) |
| |
Were you tired? |
main verb = were (be) |
| |
Do you help at home? |
main verb = help |
| |
Does she have a dog? |
main verb = have |
| |
Did he watch the film? |
main verb = watch |
You can also use these rules for negative sentences (否定句子).
Examples: |
I am not hungry. |
|
| |
We are not tired. |
|
| |
I do not help at home. |
|
| |
She does not have a dog. |
|
| |
He did not watch the film. |
